SANCHEZ REACHES FINAL AT $80,000 ITF ALBEQUERQUE

Longtime Agent Atleta client Maria Sanchez enjoyed a successful week at the $80,000 ITF in Albquerque, New Mexico, reaching the singles final where she succumbed to fellow American Emina Bektas.  In the opening round, Sanchez defeated No. 1 seed and top 100 player Victorija Golubic, and used the upset victory as a springboard to reach her first ITF singles final of 2017.

"It is nice to see the hard work pay off after a challenging season," the fomer USC Trojan star said.  I had high hopes to finish the year strong, and this is obviously a big step in that direction."

Sanchez earned 70 precious rankings points and will see her world ranking rise from No. 353 to No. 281, as she makes a push to for the qualifying draw at the 2018 Australian Open.

SANCHEZ SELECTED BY NY EMPIRE IN WTT DRAFT

Agent Atleta client Maria Sanchez was selected by the New York Empire World Team Tennis franchise in the 2017 WTT Draft, which took place March 14, 2017 on site at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA.  The Empire demonstrated their desire to select Sanchez by taking her with the team's second round pick.  

Sanchez is expected to primarily play women's doubles and mixed doubles for the Empire this season (July 16-Aug 2).  A veteran of World Team Tennis, Sanchez was the Rookie of the Year in 2012.  

The Empire previously announced that all home matches will be played on Court 17 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, home of the U.S. Open.

"I'm really excited to have been selected by the New York Empire in the WTT Draft," Sanchez said.  "I love New York City, and there are few venues in tennis that compare with the  USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.  I can't wait to join my teammates this summer and experience the energy and atmosphere on Court 17 as we look to compete for a league championship."  

Sanchez will be joined on the Empire's roster by Eugenie Bouchard, Mardy Fish, John Isner, and Kirsten Flipkens.  Tennis Hall of Famer Gigi Fernandez will make her WTT debut as the coach of the Empire.

SANCHEZ CAPTURES BNP PARIBAS CHALLENGE

Agent Atleta client Maria Sanchez captured the BNP Paribas Challenge, storming through a decidedly competitive field to earn a wild card into the qualifying draw at the prestigious BNP Paribas Open.  

Sanchez, who hails from nearby USC where she topped the college rankings, was riding a wave of momentum heading into the Challenge, having won 10 of her last 12 matches on the ITF Pro Circuit.  

In addition to competing in singles at the BNP Paribas Open, Sanchez is entered in the main draw doubles with Oksana Klashnikova.

AGENT ATLETA CLIENTS FALCONI, SANCHEZ AWARDED WILD CARDS AT BNP PARIBAS OPEN

Longstanding Agent Atleta clients Irina Falconi and Maria Sanchez, both former college No. 1's, respectively, have received wild cards for the upcoming BNP Paribas Open March 9-22.  

Sanchez, a California native, has been on a roll on the ITF Pro Circuit this season, reaching the semi-finals and finals of her last two events in the U.S.  Recognizing her upswing, Sanchez was rewarded by the tournament with a qualifying wild card and will begin play on Monday, March 9 in the desert.  

Falconi has seen her ranking jump approximately 50 spots in the last 6 months.  She recently reached the second round of the Australian Open after defeating former Top 25 player Kai Kanepi in the opener.  Falconi is knocking on the door of the Top 100 at her current ranking of No. 102.  Falconi will see action in the first round of the main draw at the BNP Paribas on March 11 or 12.

Sanchez Featured by ESPN Deportes

Agent Atleta client Maria Sanchez was recently chroniced by ESPN Deportes.  Sanchez has roots in Mexico where she was first introduced to tennis while living in Guadalajara.  The article notes that Sanchez is among a number of prominent Mexican-American athletes, including fellow former Trojan Mark Sanchez (no relation), whose families left Mexico at some point in search of better opportunities in the U.S.  

Sanchez is currently competing in the WTA Abierto Monterrey, which prompted the piece.  Sanchez recently cracked the top 100 in doubles, and is ranked No. 25 as team (partnering Sharon Fichman) in the latest WTA World Doubles rankings released on Monday, March 31, 2014.
