SANCHEZ REACHES FINAL AT $80,000 ITF ALBEQUERQUE

Longtime Agent Atleta client Maria Sanchez enjoyed a successful week at the $80,000 ITF in Albquerque, New Mexico, reaching the singles final where she succumbed to fellow American Emina Bektas.  In the opening round, Sanchez defeated No. 1 seed and top 100 player Victorija Golubic, and used the upset victory as a springboard to reach her first ITF singles final of 2017.

"It is nice to see the hard work pay off after a challenging season," the fomer USC Trojan star said.  I had high hopes to finish the year strong, and this is obviously a big step in that direction."

Sanchez earned 70 precious rankings points and will see her world ranking rise from No. 353 to No. 281, as she makes a push to for the qualifying draw at the 2018 Australian Open.

AGENT ATLETA CLIENTS FALCONI, SANCHEZ AWARDED WILD CARDS AT BNP PARIBAS OPEN

Longstanding Agent Atleta clients Irina Falconi and Maria Sanchez, both former college No. 1's, respectively, have received wild cards for the upcoming BNP Paribas Open March 9-22.

Sanchez, a California native, has been on a roll on the ITF Pro Circuit this season, reaching the semi-finals and finals of her last two events in the U.S.  Recognizing her upswing, Sanchez was rewarded by the tournament with a qualifying wild card and will begin play on Monday, March 9 in the desert.

Falconi has seen her ranking jump approximately 50 spots in the last 6 months.  She recently reached the second round of the Australian Open after defeating former Top 25 player Kai Kanepi in the opener.  Falconi is knocking on the door of the Top 100 at her current ranking of No. 102.  Falconi will see action in the first round of the main draw at the BNP Paribas on March 11 or 12.

FALCONI CAPTURES NEW BRAUNFELS $50K TITLE; TAKES OVER LEAD FOR AUSTRALIAN OPEN WILD CARD

Agent Atleta client Irina Falconi continued her stellar form this fall season, capturing the singles title at the $50,0000 USTA Pro Circuit event in New Braunfels.  Falconi used her vintage all-around game and savvy shot selection to frustrate fellow American Jennifer Brady, one of the nation's top amateur players after leading UCLA to an NCAA team title last year.

The 7-6, 6-2 victory ended in spectacular fashion with Falconi adeptly changing direction to run down a deft drop shot and pass Brady at the net to secure the winner's check of over $7,000.

The result vaulted Falconi into first place in the race for the coveted USTA main draw wild card into the Australian Open.  The wild card playoff consists of three consecutive events on the USTA Pro Circuit: Macon, GA; New Braunfels, TX; and Captive Island, the latter of which will take place this week.

The rules dictate that a player's best two results will count towards the race.  Falconi reached the semi-finals in Macon, such that only a finals appearance in Captiva could improve her status.

Falconi, a member of the WTA Player's Council, recently hired young touring pro Patrick Frandji from Florida as her full-time coach.  The pair have combined for a strong record this fall, and Falconi is on the verge of breaking back in the top 100 for the first time since 2012.
